Frequently Asked Questions
Classes
Do I need to buy gear right away?
For your first class, keep it simple: wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
If you continue, we’ll guide you on what you’ll need. The uniform that you will receive with the Quick Start Enrollment allows you to “change hats”. Different types of clothing has always been used for different activities. And the same is true in the Martial Arts.
If I miss class due to weather or illness, do you offer make-ups?
Reach out if you miss a class and we’ll help decide on next steps. Make-up options depend on the program and the current schedule, but we’ll do our best to keep your training consistent.
How do I book my free trial class and what happens next?
You can schedule a free introductory class in Tai Chi or Kung Fu by filling out the “Free Trial Class” form. After you submit it, the team will contact you to confirm your session and walk you through next steps.

Kung Fu
What is the schedule for Kung Fu classes?
Kung Fu Adult Group Classes are Mondays at 7 pm, Wednesdays at 7 pm, and Saturdays at 9:30 am. Kung Fu Youth Group Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm.
I’m not in shape, can I still start Kung Fu?
Often the only way to be “in shape” for an activity like Kung Fu is by actually doing the activity. Kung Fu is physically demanding, but beginners are taught foundations first, with progress that builds as your conditioning improves.
How much do Kung Fu lessons cost?
Pricing depends on what your goals are. Our focus is always on delivering strong value, and we recognize that every student’s needs are different—so we do our best to work with you. Shaolin Arts isn’t the cheapest or most expensive option, but we aim to be the best, and we’re confident you’ll feel it’s well worth the investment.
How long does it take to learn Kung Fu?
Lasting transformation takes practice and time. Many students notice the first real shift around the 3-month mark, with deeper progress building at 6 months and beyond.
For some, training is goal-oriented. They work toward specific outcomes, reach them within a defined timeframe, and then return periodically for a refresher. For others, it becomes a lifelong path. At Shaolin Arts, we work to make every class meaningful. We’ve all experienced how staying engaged in the Arts improves fitness and overall well-being, and how that carries over into everything else we do.
What is Shaolin Kung Fu?
Shaolin Kung Fu is a traditional martial art with roots in the Shaolin Temple. It’s known for cultivating balance, speed, and power. It includes striking and kicking, grappling, classical combinations, sweeps and throws, forms, joint locks, pressure-point work, healing practices, and the development and use of chi (qi).
“Shaolin” means “Little Pine Forest,” a reference to the temple’s setting. Beyond technique, Shaolin Kung Fu emphasizes discipline, respect, humility, and compassion. Visit Shaolin Arts and experience how Kung Fu can strengthen and enrich your everyday life.

What is the schedule for Tai Chi classes?
Tai Chi Group Classes are Mondays at 6 pm, Tuesdays at 5:30 pm, Thursdays at 5:30 pm, and Saturdays at 10:45 am. We also offer private lessons by appointment.
Is Tai Chi a martial art?
Yes, Tai Chi is a martial art originating in China. Originally developed for combat and self-defense, it now serves primarily as a meditative exercise. Shaolin Arts can teach you the self-defense and meditative aspects of Tai Chi.
How frequently should I practice Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is definitely safe to practice daily. Because it’s a low-impact, gentle aerobic activity, unlike many high-impact workouts that demand more recovery, it’s very beneficial even in just a few minutes of daily practice. The key is to listen to your body and work within your limits. If you feel you need a break, take one rather than pushing through.
